Few shows in recent memory come more enshrouded in mystery than this evening's WIERD holds in store. Thus far we have but a scattered handful of darkly shining VRagments word of mouth style from the likes of the Red Light District and the Rosenkopf crew's seasonal Solstice pilgrimages up to the great black North to go on, to piece together a brittle, private image of Maine's isolationist electronic punk underground. Tales of complex occult-driven ritualistic performances deep in the deliciously seething blood of the woods, often lasting days, so varied from one to the next ITs quite impossible to convey, and with scantly any internet presence to speak of(gasp...)...and just a few charmed beholders in attendance beyond the eyes of the earthly elements fortunate enough to gaze onto the mise-en-scène unfolding.
Something tells me a New England's Hidden Reverse is congealing, and it was with pleasure we recently heard rumours they're comin out of the forest, and hitting the cold road to seep into the bulbously welcoming veins of our Very Rare World... So tonite WIERD Maineline's the darkness as we welcome the double-billed intensity of TABOO and ANCESTRAL DIET for a seamless live performance at midnite! Tomorrow night thurs. feb. 16th after years of patiently waiting and god knows tens of thousands of spins later of their minimal electronic masterpiece "Watching Trees" Rochester, NY cult legends ELEVEN POND will play their first east coast show in over 20 years at Glasslands alongside Frank(just Frank) and Plastic Flowers, with DJs Nikki Sneakers and Pre-Op Trans! Singlehandedly combining dual microphone and accoustic guitar looping and manipulation with violin and drum machine, our Lady in Neon tells me that this evening's performance will begin a solitary passage of metamorphosis and transformation culminating in her explosive rebirth as the Delphic Sybil. ITs getting cold out there kiddies so we always say, slide on in on the freshly blackened ice and to say goodbye to our elusive little wintery wild child - will the darkly splendid dictates of Hubris reap the best of her to throw away the Key to the Heathen-Pagan night forever???...my goodness how could you possibly resist. Happy New WIERD everyone! The WIERD Party returns this week to kick off another Very Rare year of dark musical pleasures as we're proud to welcome back FIELDED from Chicago! The lovely Ms. Lindsay Powell(also of Ga'an/Festival) put on one of the most incredibly haunting performances of 2011 on an amazing bill with KTAOABC from Belgium last April, and she's back tonite with her new band for one final NYC gig before departing for her new home in Los Angeles on friday. Lindsay tells me along with a few new trax she'll be playing songs of the the new Fielded split LP with Alex Barnett on Nihilist Records. Its a great album for sure as her chillingly soaring vocals float to a whole new level over an organically pulsing arsenal of ominously oozing electronics. And VRarewell is certainly the theme of the evening as we also welcome one last guest DJ appearance by our beloved long-time friend Mr. Samuel kKlovenhoof of Led Er Est before he makes his move back to the dusty barren plains of Texas next week. Come give the handsome Prince of Port Isabel one last big, sloppy WIERD hug, we're all gonna miss him after all these years in the smoke and mirrors of our frozen sweet home...VR.

De Trop is the new death industrial-injected modular electronics project of WIERD's longtime ally and beloved friend Mr. Ryan Martin who along with the great Gibby Miller runs the venerable DAIS Records label WIERD has long been a fan of, and who we teamed up with on the excellent Psychic TV show this past summer. DT have only played a few gigs in the highly regarded shadowly likes of The Red light District et al, and for this evening's performance they will play a new set of sputteringly pustulating pools of nasty ooze as a 3 piece with vocals, hidden down and dirty in the electricity-fueled Eurorack bunker. Tonite WIERD is proud to host the first night of TESCO USA's 10 Year Anniversary Festival, featuring the US debut of DOGPOP(feat. members of Genocide Organ) from Germany! Dogpop traverse the sounds of classic minimal electronics, old school industrial and Neue Deutsche Welle, and should make for a Krautastically celebratory evening to kickoff four nights that will showcase an ultra solid, who's who line-up of artists, DJs, labelheads and writers from the worlds of power electronics, Noise, Martial industrial, Neofolk, and Dark Ambient music that have populated the ever-expansive Tesco universe the past decade. The fest will run through the weekend in various venues in NYC and end in Philly on sat., and a full line-up of all activities and concerts is up over at Tesco central, along with a teaser for the forthcoming God Blast America DVD that will be available to commemorate this momentous occasion.:

Jane's amazing efforts, passion and tireless love of this specific music so important to so many of us have almost single-handedly kept this world alive and available in the US for the past 10 years. Long before noise was re-energized and got back on its feet in the mid-naughts, Jane was organizing countless shows and DJ nights, flying bands in from Europe to play the US for the first time, and helping so many triumphantly taboo unknown artists from here and abroad to be heard, and her spirit should be an inspiration to fans of underground music everywhere. Back in the dark days of the WIERD when show after show went by, year after year, with just a handful of courageous VR loners on hand in support late into the night, Jane was always there in every way. One of the most truly enigmatic new bands in NYC who have graced us with their intensely stoic presence in recent months are back, feel blessed as these leather-clad mindwarriors slash apart the brittle sonic space in front of your twitchy little face and open new profanely destabilized landscapes of cryptically luscious darkness and doom to ruin your twisted nerves for weeks to come.
